While there are many neighborhoods in and around Oslo, there are four main areas ideal for travelers interested in global art and culture. City Center Most travelers visiting Oslo are sure to stay near the city center. The historical center is called Kvadraturen and runs between Akershus Fortress and Karl Johans gate. Karl Johans is the main street and is lined with shopping stores, hotels, cafés, nightclubs and bars. Rosenkrantz’ gate is especially filled with bars and shops while parades and outdoor concerts are generally held along Karl Johans street.
